SURYAPET Pastor Samson and his wife

Mission Care will support the orphanage through a match funding agreement and assist with the development of additional accommodation and the services infrastructure.

A site visit was made to Suryapet in May 2010, to assess the extent and scope of Mission Care's long term involvement with the project. It was established that the key priority for the children and the orphanage was the development of a new orphanage. A site, approximately 5miles from Suryapet has already been purchased and a preliminary design structure has been produced by Mission Care. The new orphanage will include two seperate blocks, one for girls and one for boys. These blocks will include showers and toilets with proper sanitation and a dining hall and kitchen. Administration offices and staff units will also be provided, built around an enclosed and secure courtyard.

A recent fundraising effort in September 2010 raised nearly £2,000 for the orphanage and will be used to provide the children with books, toys, games and clothing, to meet their most pressing needs.

In December 2010 Mission Care provided funds totalling nearly £10,000 towards the purchase of additional land for the new development site, as part of a match funding agreement worth £20,000 that includes funding supplied by our partners at Earls Hall and Hadleigh Baptist Churches.  A site visit will be made by Andrew Scott, Group Services Director and representatives from the Earls Hall and Hadleigh Baptist Churches between the 12th to 19th January 2011.  This trip will establish the construction team and project management strategy for the development and building of the new orphanage, with a view to commence building operations as soon as possible.

A breaking of the ground ceremony took place in February 2011 to mark the beginning of construction on the new site.  Phase 1 of the project will include the construction of eight dormitories, a shower and toilet block and warden's accommodation and will provide accommodation for up to 120 children.  It is expected, subject to funding, that this first stage of the project will be complete within 12 months.

By April 2011, a transformer that will supply power to the site had been installed, tested and certified and the water bore well and pump which will supply clean and safe drinking water to the new orphanage was complete and operational.

The most recent developments on site, as of June 2011, include completion of foundation works, structural columns have also been erected and materials are arriving for the next stage of building works.
