Book club inspires supper choice

Date posted: February 23rd, 2011 | Tags: Love Walk, residential care home, intermediate care, rehabiliative care, independent living, Denmark Hill, book club, John Steinbeck, Cannery Row

Residents at Love Walk meet each week to enthusiastically discuss and debate each week’s chosen novel at their book club.

Inspired by their current read, John Steinbeck’s ’Cannery Row’, the residents planned and prepared a special ’Cannery Row Soup’ for supper on Monday 21st February.

’Cannery Row’ is set during the Great Depression in Monterey, California and folllows the lives of three characters living in and around ’Cannery Row’ - a fictional street lined with sardine fisheries.

Residents purchased all of the fresh vegetables, herbs and fish from the local grocer on Monday morning and spent the afternoon peeling, chopping and cooking the soup before sharing it with everyone in the evening.
