More than 50 members of the Chatterton Road community attended reopening celebrations for our charity shop, Brix on Thursday 16th December.
Guests included residents from our Bromley homes who benefit from the funds raised by Brix throughout the year. Hot mulled wine, hot chocolate, mince pies and stollen was served to attendees and passersby to help the keep the icy chill at bay.
Brix was opened in 1994 to support fundraising efforts associated with the rebuilding of Homefield, Lime Close, Bickley and has since become a well established and prominent part of the local community and shopping centre. The shop closed for the first time in its 16 year history in October and November for an intensive and complete refurbishment, which included new wiring, new flooring and interiors.
Jonathan Crisp, Executive Director of Mission Care explained, ‘our staff, volunteers and customers at Brix contribute a huge amount to Mission Care’s fundraising and voluntary income. It was important that we acknowledged their hard work and commitment to Mission Care over the past 16 years and the wonderful achievements of Mission Care’s small works team in their refurbishment of the shop. It was a delight to see so many of our supporters and friends turn up to support us in the cold weather!’
Profits from Brix total between £30,000 and £35,000 per year and help to support activities and events for the 600 older people that live in Mission Care’s homes in Bromley, Lewisham and Southwark each year.
