A group of 9 residents from Willett House, Greenhill, Morton House and Homefield, accompanied by family members, volunteers and carers united together for a visit to East Hall Farm St. Paul’s Walden Bury in Hitchin, Hertfordshire on Thursday 9th June.

Here our residents visited the large stately home, belonging to the Bowes Lyon Family since 1925, which was the Queen Mother’s childhood home. In the gardens of the estate our residents enjoyed afternoon tea and lunch in the warm sunshine, overlooking the beautiful scenery of the statues and the avenues that flow away into the countryside.

Afterwards the group took a tractor trip around the farm and the estate for some quick sightseeing and stopped to talk about the cattle, horses and the plants found on the farm. They reminisced and shared stories, with one resident commenting that ’the horses reminded her of the Ascot’. Another resident loved the farm so much she asked are ’there are any houses for sale?’

The Granddaughter of a resident commented that ’she had a lovely day, and it was great to take a trip to somewhere that had so much history behind it’.

After travelling back to St. Pauls Walden Bury, we enjoyed the long, scenic trip home. Our trip was supported by ’the let nature feed your senses’ initiative. With thanks to our volunteers and colleagues who contributed to this wonderful afternoon. To see photos from the trip please click here.
