Our first shop was opened on Chatterton Road in 1993 by two local ladies who were inspired to raise money to support Mission Care after receiving a fundraising leaflet for the re-build of Homefield. The leaflet asked local residents to “donate a barrowful of bricks” which led to the name of the shop being chosen. Brix became a play on the word bricks, with the X representing the unknown factor of purchasing an item from a charity shop.  Today, the shop goes by the name On a Mission, reflecting our ethos and vision but certainly retains all of its quirky Brix charm.

Our second shop, located on Crescent Way in Orpington, opened its doors in 2017 and has quickly become a firm favourite among the local community. It is well stocked with clothes and accessories, books, small electrical items and a variety of quirky bric-a-brac!

Our shops play a vital role in the local communities, organising and running seasonal and special events throughout the year helping to raise awareness of Mission Care and providing guidance to people who may want to know more about how to access care services across the borough.

Proceeds from our charity shops contribute to our Improving Lives programme which helps enhance the range of services and activities that we can offer our residents. In short, your shopping really does help.

Donations

We are always on the look-out for quality donations in good condition for our charity shops, in particular:

  • Books
  • Bric-a-Brac
  • CDs & DVDs
  • Clothes
  • Electrical items
  • Toys
  • Vintage goods

If you would like to make a donation, we ask that they are made during our opening hours rather than left outside. That way, we can help keep the local area clean and tidy as well as ask you to fill in a Gift Aid declaration form to help us increase our revenue at no extra cost to you.

Volunteering

We couldn’t run our charity shops without our wonderful volunteers and are always looking to welcome new friends to the team. For more information about volunteering in one of our shops, or in another capacity, please click here.
