Three residents from Willett House set out to visit Polhill on the 13
th May. On arrival at the garden centre, the weather was so miserable, that our party sensibly headed straight to the café where they were able to enjoy tea and scones whilst remaining warm and dry!
Not wanting to return back to Chislehurst sooner than expected the group set off on a driving tour. The weather was no better at the Keston Ponds, just outside of Bromley, but there were plenty of ducks that were enjoying the rain that we watched for a while.
The highlight of our unexpected driving tour was, undoubtedly, the opportunity to drive past the Biggin Hill Air Fields. The airport is now famous for its airport, which appeared, most recently in ‘The Da Vinci Code’ film, but we stopped off to look at the Hawker Hurricane and Supermarine Spitfire jets that are displayed just outside of the barracks. One of our residents, Jean, worked in the production of these planes during the war, so it was a particular joy to see the jets again and an interesting reminiscence activity for the other residents on the trip.
