LOVE WALK VISIT BIGGIN HILL AIRPORT

Jane Wilkinson

18 September 2017

A group of residents at Love Walk enjoyed a fantastic day out recently, visiting Biggin Hill Airport. The local airport is best known for its role during the Battle of Britain in the Second World War, when it served as one of the principal fighter bases protecting London and South East England from attack by enemy bombers.

Our airport enthusiasts enjoyed sitting in the café at the end of the runway watching the planes take off and land as well as some students training to fly in a single-engine propeller aircraft. Residents also enjoyed lunch while they were there, with one resident, Susan, commenting, “It was a relaxing trip. The airport is very interesting and I am glad we had the opportunity to visit.”

Paul Clay, Activities Co-Ordinator, also commented, “We all agreed it was a unique experience and are looking forward to visiting again next year when the new museum is open”.
